Long Beach, California – June 8, 2023 – ACT Lab, the independent ISO 17025 accredited laboratory that conducts safety and compliance testing for the bicycle, outdoor, and many other consumer product industries has launched a comprehensive solution to recognize products that have been validated to national safety standards surrounding electric mobility products.

This program comes in response from the CPSC’s announcement last December encouraging manufacturers to validate electric mobility products such as e-bicycles to critical safety standards, and the more recent signing into law of New York City’s bill 663-2022-A, mandating compliance verification and marking directly on these products if sold, rented or leased in the city to the following:

  • ANSI/CAN/UL – 2849 Electrical Systems for e-Bikes
  • ANSI/CAN/UL – 2272 Standard for Electrical Systems for Personal E-mobility Devices
  • ANSI/CAN/UL/ULC – 2271 Standard for Batteries for use in Light Electrical Vehicles (LEV) Applications

ACT Lab President John Bogler stated in a recent letter on launching an online directory and supporting marking campaign provided, “…instantaneous recognition and confirmation that products listed are compliant with these important safety standards, and the markings provide reassurance to consumers and regulatory agencies about the reliability and safety of these devices, while providing suppliers the necessary tools to showcase the valuable oversight they have performed on their products to increase consumer confidence and safety.”

Manufacturers and suppliers will receive access to pre-designed, standardized labels and hangtags affixed with QR codes to implement onto their products upon completion of testing.  Scanning the code will immediately direct users to an accessible online registry denoting the product details and the electrical safety standard for which it complies.  Consumers and regulators should look for these labels and can visit the e-validation directory at act-lab.com/e-validate.
