If you’re looking to ensure the best quality of your products and assure your customers that your products are free of harmful chemicals, ACT LAB is here to help. Depending on the types of products you are manufacturing, ensuring that your materials are free of hazardous chemicals like lead, mercury, and other hazardous metals is of the utmost importance. In this respect, partnering with a 3rd-party testing lab can give you confidence that your products meet the highest standard before going to market.

In this article we will discuss the types of chemicals you may have to test for and why chemical testing is important to keep your company and your customers safe.

Lead

If you manufacture children’s products, lead testing is a requirement before going to market. All children’s products (those designed for consumers under 12 years of age) must undergo third-party testing to ensure that products do not contain a concentration of lead greater than 0.009 percent in paint.

Cadmium and Mercury

Cadmium and mercury can be found in products like jewelry. These chemicals can be highly toxic overtime and can cause health problems in your customers if not controlled, so testing is of paramount importance. Furthermore, testing for both ensures that your company complies with a number of international and regional regulations.

Other Harmful Chemicals and Metals

The list of other harmful chemicals and metals your company should look out for is long. Depending on your product type, ACT LAB can help you decide what tests might be most appropriate for you.

Other tests we offer include:

  • Phthalates Testing: Congress has permanently banned three types of phthalates greater than .1 percent in children’s products: DEHP, DBP, and BBP. The CPSIA has also banned DINP, DIDP and Dn0P on an interim basis meaning that limits apply to children’s toys that can be placed in a child’s mouth.
  • BPA testing: Bisphenol A (BPA) is frequently used in food contact materials like plastics. However, many consumers prefer to purchase BPA-free products and in some cases, such as in the production of infant products, you may be required to make BPA-free products. Our labs can help you test for BPA across your entire supply chain.
